Elvaston Castle can be found just outside of Borrowash and just a few minutes drive from the A52, making it really easy to get to. There is ample car parking which costs £1.60 for 2 hours or £3 for 4 hours. Make sure you have the right money as the machines don’t give change and only take cash.

From the car park take the path to the right leading next to the lake. Follow this round with the lake on your left.

Walk until you see the bridge bending round to the right, and cross the lake. Keep following the path until you reach a gate and a road.

Turn left here following the road through the castle courtyard. There is a lovely cafe through here called Wyatt’s which serves lovely hot chocolates and cakes. Although dogs aren’t allowed instead there is a large seating area outside the cafe where you can sit.

From here follow the path to the right towards the gardens, keep to the right of the main route through next to the church (Church Avenue on the map) and walk down until you reach a large Redwood tree. Turn left here and walk alongside the gate until you reach another Redwood.

Here turn left back down another tree lined grassy route (School Avenue) until you reach the gate for the Italian Garden.

Go through the gate and follow the path straight down until you see another gate towards the castle. Keep walking across towards the lake.

When you have reached the lake turn right and walk along the banks until the path bends left across a bridge. Follow this across and you will come back to the entrance to the car park.
